The COVID pandemic and 2020 had to be one of the oddest years in memory. The ups and downs we endured as people probably don’t compare to what restaurants have been through for the past 20 months! Trying to take care of customers given supply chain problems, masking rules, and stressed out staff has had to be one of the biggest, challenges ever. And we lost quite a few, good restaurants along the way, including High Horse in City Market. A sultry and modern take on the wood-fired grill, the restaurant was unique and offered a glimpse into a different type of dining experience.

Fast-forward to 2021 and Chef Katsuji Tanabe of Top Chef fame and who helmed High Horse is about to launch his new restaurant, A’Verde Cocina and Tequila Library in Cary. Pairing up with the popular LM Restaurant group, Chef Katsuji will be going back to his Mexican roots and offering up uplifted cuisine in what I expect to be a very interesting space.

A recent media invite allowed me to join in on a preview dinner for A’Verde Cocina at the popular Vidrio restaurant. It was a great chance to taste what might be on the upcoming menu and it was fun and impressive. Check out the pics below and if you’re intrigued, there is a second A’verde pop-up dinner happening on 12/2. A tasting menu paired with cocktails served family style, the dinner was a fun experience. Enjoy the pics and the album below, A’Verde is expected to open up during the winter, sometime soon.
