I’m more of a savory guy versus sweets but every now and then, I get a hankering for something on that end of the menu. And one spot that has caught my attention over the past year or so is Brecotea Baking Studio out in Cary. When I first heard about it, I really wasn’t sure what to expect. It calls itself a “baking studio” which I scratched my head on. But after a couple of visits, I think I understand what they’re doing. Think Asian dessert and boba tea cafe and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what to expect. And yet each time I visit, there are more surprises on the menu! But no matter why you visit the place, I think you’ll enjoy Brecotea Baking Studio quite a bit…

You’ll find the Brecotea Baking Studio right next door to Goodberry’s (Frozen custard) on Kildaire Farm Road, so if baked sweets aren’t your thang, you’ve got options next door! There’s plenty of parking out front and the first thing you’ll notice is the size of the place. Brecotea is quite long and spacious with a patio to the right and sunroom-like area to the left. Step inside and you’ll be surprised at what you will find! A bright, modern, interior, a brass Brecotea art piece to the right and an order counter up front.

Your eyes will probably immediately be drawn to the main pastry case where you’ll find a huge assortment of buns and Asian baked goods. And you’ll likely see items that you would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere like corn buns, raisin brioches, purple Ube sesame buns, oreo sticks, and more! Everything looks tasty so it’s hard to choose. Should you go savory or sweet? How about both! Grab a red, plastic tray and pick your items out before paying up front.

Beyond this self-service pastry area, Brecotea also has ANOTHER refrigerated case with cakes by the slice and whole ones. I highly recommend trying out the mille crepe cakes, a many-layered cake of thin crepes and butter cream, similar to a Southern little layer cake. You can order these treats up front at the cashier or on the self-serve kiosk since it takes some skill to pull out a slice. Most everything at Brecotea is made in-house except for (I believe) the ice cream. In addition to the pastries, Brecotea offers up a variety of boba (bubble) teas, fruit teas and more to enjoy with your snack!

Once you’ve ordered at the kiosk, grab a seat in Brecotea’s garden-like cafe setting. Lots of warm wood, pale greens, and whites highlight the space. The design is quite organic and comfortable, there are also a lot of power outlets to plug in a laptop for an extended stay. Enjoy your snack and a tea while tapping away on your keyboard!

What I really like about Brecotea is that there’s a lot of space to stretch out in for some peace and quiet. This location used to be a Hibernian Irish pub so you’ve even got a cute little sunroom up front with a view of Kildaire Farms Road. Along with the outdoor patio, there are tons of seating options at Brecotea Baking Studio!

With only two locations in the Southeast (Richmond, VA and Cary, NC), I feel lucky to have a Brecotea Baking Studio in the area. It’s fun, it’s quirky and a pretty unique option for the area in my opinion. From delicious Asian pastries to tea, ice cream and more, I see Brecotea as a great morning or afternoon option for a snack and drink in the area. Meet up with a friend, meet up for a business meeting, there’s plenty of ways to enjoy Brecotea Cary. And a very cool addition to Cary’s growing foodie scene, enjoy!
