I don’t know about you but I’ve been hearing about Wegmans for years! Relatives up north would regale me with stories about this mythical food emporium serving up amazing, restaurant-quality eats and gourmet groceries. So yeah, I was pretty excited when I heard about the first Raleigh location opening up on Wake Forest Road. And that date is coming soon, September 29th! Along with Wegmans, there will be other additional restaurants coming to the Midtown East plaza, including Xtra Crispy, a fast casual chicken restaurant from Chef Ashley Christensen.
I recently had a chance to preview the new Wegmans Raleigh and it is impressive! They didn’t have the entire building open so I mainly got to see the prepared foods area, bakery and wine area. First when you approach the building, it is pretty massive with bi-level parking, a surface lot up top and a covered underground lot below.
The prepared food area is to your left and encompasses a coffee bar, the pastry area, bakery, pizza bar, salad bar, grill, cold-hot bar along with a large sushi area. Prices look super reasonable for what I expect to be above average eats, they’ve got a staff of over 130 people serving up the eats here!
Some fast facts about Wegmans Raleigh but it’s about 105,000 square feet and average in size for the chain. It’s the first Wegmans store in North Carolina and the 100th store in the chain, woohoo! Wegmans plans on opening up 6 stores in the Triangle ranging from W. Cary, Chapel Hill, Wake Forest and beyond. The hot and cold bars should have about 100 items to choose from that will change seasonally beyond some regular favorites. The sushi bar will have fish sourced from around the world and separate from the retail-grocery seafood area.
I’ll be updating this post with more information when available, please check out the food menus below for prices. Until Wegmans officially opens up, enjoy these articles about the passion customers have for Wegmans and sign up for their Shoppers Club for digital coupons and more!
