Front of Cameron Bar and Grill in Raleigh, NC Triangle Dining
Recent changes to Cameron Bar and Grill in Cameron Village have been for the MUCH better. My first visit or two was really lack-luster: blah food, disinterested service and sort of an odd crowd. But a recent takeover by the Eschelon group means that the Cameron Bar and Grill has really raised its game. The interior is still pretty basic, dark woods, blacks, B&W photos of Raleigh way back when, along with a very nice bar in the back. They’ve also got a great shaded patio in front which is really inviting so the Cameron Bar and Grill has some varied seating options. I crack open the menu and what used to be a ho-hum menu has been spiced up with a lot of interesting takes on classic bar food and American dishes. I go with a brisket covered with collards and onion rings on a kaiser roll.

While I’m waiting for my meal, it does look like they’ve got some nice daily specials going on. Especially the 1/2 rack of ribs on Thursdays! But oh well, it’s too early for that right now. My sandwich comes out and it’s nice piece of tender brisket contrasted against soft greens and crispy onion rings, very nice. During a subsequent visit I tried out a meatloaf sandwich with spicy ketchup which is equally good. I sit at the bar both times and service was a bit mixed, I always scratch my head on this one since you’re sitting 5′ away from the bartender but maybe they were understaffed. But as a warning, the service was always a mixed bag at Cameron Bar and Grill so maybe not everything has changed with the new management. Still, the Cameron Bar and Grill is now a serviceable option for Cameron Village eating. It may not be spectacular but it’s definitely improved and that’s all you can really ask for from this casual eatery!
